Recently, my children nicknamed a colleague of my husband’s ‘The French Toast Lady.’
‘The French Toast Lady’ (aka Michele Lee) was born out of one the most thoughtful gifts we’ve ever received. For Christmas, Michelle gave my husband a loaf of cinnamon bread, a bottle of maple syrup and a tin of hot chocolate. On their own, each of the items was delicious, but the very best part was the story Michelle included.
“One of our traditions Christmas morning is to have a big breakfast that includes cinnamon bread French toast and hot chocolate. I would like to share a little bit of that with you with the select items and the recipe enclosed.”
Wow! What a terrific gift! Not only was the gift something we enjoyed—Christmas breakfast was amazing!–Michelle shared a little bit of her family with our family. As a result, we now have a new family tradition. Equally important, when my husband was telling a story about work, my kids asked, “Was the French toast lady there?” The gift enabled my children to connect what would have previously been a story of unknown characters to someone who had created a very special experience for us on Christmas morning.
Gifts that create memorable experiences and shared connections are among the most special ones you can give. When stumped with what gift to give, share a tradition that your family enjoys and maybe you too will earn a new nickname.
